Three positions will be filled:
- One will be located at the W.L. Finley National Wildlife Refuge, in Corvallis, Oregon.
- One will be located at the Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge, in Dallas, Oregon.
- One will be located at the Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge, in Jefferson, Oregon
Salary range for these positions:Corvallis, OR: $23.19 to $27.06Dallas, OR: $24.24 to $28.28Jefferson, OR: $24.24 to $28.28

- Operates a variety of gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-type traction and attachments on all types of terrain such as flat, hills, steep slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, rocky or soft grounds, and forests. Operates heavy equipment close to buildings, towers, trees, drop-offs, waterlines, and rocks.
- Operates crawler tractor on flat or rolling terrain to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on such projects as breaking ground for trails, roads, canals, dams, or constructions sites.
- Operates crawler tractor to move earth on steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, and hilly forests.
- Operates crawler tractor on flat or rolling terrain in grading surfaces, compacting soils, and/or spreading surfacing materials to exact specifications.
- Operates front-end loader or other attachments to remove piles of dirt, to load trucks, or for the digging of earth or gravel.
- Operates bulldozer, angle dozer, or other attachments to clean or fill ditches, to fill holes and perform final grading on dikes, or to excavate ditches and ponds.
- Conducts disking, chopping, mowing, rotovating, digging, loading and leveling to rough grade for the purpose of ditch cleaning, culvert installation, creating and maintaining trails and fire breaks, and various other purposes.
- Operates tractor-trailers to transport equipment to and from work sites.
- Adjusts attachments for proper positioning and working order without stopping the equipment.
To qualify, you must be able to do the work of an engineering equipment operator at the WG-10 level without more than normal supervision. This includes operating a variety of gasoline or diesel powered engineering or construction equipment with wheeled or crawler typed traction and attachments in all types of terrain to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on such projects as breaking new ground for trails, roads, canals, or construction sites.
SELECTIVE FACTOR (SCREEN OUT): In addition to qualifying experience above, this position requires applicants to possess a current class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or be able to obtain one prior to employment and submit proof.
Although there is no specific length of training or experience required, you must demonstrate, through your experience or training described in your resume, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the major duties of this position as described above. Failure to address this adequately in your resume will result in your disqualification for this position.
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS (conditions of employment)
Physical Demand: Heavy physical effort is required in the operation and adjustment of the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jolting received from operation of the equipment over rough surfaces. Location of the controls and attachments frequently requires work in awkward or strained positions.Working Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open drivers seat. Due to operations of large and complicated equipment, often in rough terrain, the operator is exposed to injury resulting from equipment overturning, and is subject to noise, vibration, dust, and fumes from machinery. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED: Your application will be evaluated and rated under the Category Rating and Selection Procedures.

We will then place you in one of three categories:
- Qualified: Meets minimum qualifications established for the position, but fails to meet the benchmark definition for the Well Qualified category
- Well Qualified: Demonstrates overall competency in the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position.
- Best Qualified: Demonstrates high proficiency and comprehensive level of knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position.
