Note: The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-13. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidates education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

The Vet Center Psychologist is responsible for providing professional clinical services to eligible veterans and family members. The incumbent is under direct administrative supervision of the Team Leader and is expected to provide clinical services under the accepted American Psychological Association guidelines for Psychologists. The work is comprised of providing clinical services consistent with accepted standards of ethical and professional mental health treatment. The incumbent also provides professional family therapy, crisis intervention, outreach and community education services as needed.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with some evening hours required.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- U.S. citizenship - Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- English Language Proficiency - In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Education - Successful completion of a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA)
- Internship - Successfully completion of a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.
- Licensure - Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-11 Psychologist-Staff psychologists at this level diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. They practice under the close supervision of a licensed psychologist.
To qualify at the GS-11 level you must meet all of the basic requirements listed above.
GS-12 Psychologist-Staff psychologists at this level diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders.
In addition to the basic requirements listed above, to qualify at the GS-12 level you must meet the following:
Experience: In addition to the basic requirements, to qualify at the GS-12 level applicants must have one (1) year of postdoctoral experience as a professional psychologist at or equivalent to the GS-11 level. For the clinical and counseling specialties, the experience must have been gained in a professional program concerned with health, rehabilitation, or vocational restoration.
GS-13 Psychologist-This is the full performance level for staff psychologists. At this level psychologists are licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. They are assigned to any VHA program and setting, including inpatient or outpatient medicine, surgery, mental health, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, geriatrics, Vet Centers, and the VHA National Center for Organizational Development. At full professional performance levels, work is with a wide range of patients: using, refining or developing new techniques in psychodiagnosis, assessment and evaluation, psychotherapy, behavior modification, vocational evaluation and counseling, job placement and follow-up; designing and evaluating therapeutic programs; identifying and developing community resources; and providing placement evaluations necessary for the placement of severely physically disabled individuals in productive jobs.
In addition to the basic requirements listed above, to qualify at the GS-13 level you must meet the following:
Experience: To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must have two (2) years postdoctoral experience as a psychologist at or equivalent to the GS-12 level.The experience must indicate the applicants ability to perform the duties of a psychologist in the area of work and at the level of difficulty and responsibility of the grade for which being considered.
PLEASE NOTE: Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
