Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the safe, smooth traffic flow of vehicles at the working face of the landfill, or at a transfer station or MRF and enforces publicly posted safety rules.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.

• Directs vehicles to the proper area of the facility based on site fill plan. Directs trucks in and out of the working area in inclement weather.
• Inspects loads for signs of unacceptable waste. May remove unsegregated items such as tires, batteries, and other unacceptable materials.
• Follows all safety policies and rules including properly approaching vehicles, making eye contact with drivers to ensure signals are understood, and use of personal protective equipment.
• Enforces publicly posted safety rules and un-posted safety standards.
• Communicates with equipment operators regarding incoming loads of special waste or other loads requiring special attention.
• Follows guidelines and procedures for completing daily closing tasks.
• May perform general labor duties including site clean up, yard work and building maintenance.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:

Required:
None

Preferred:

• Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification.
• One year of previous experience working around heavy machinery.

REPRESENTATIVE MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND/OR SOFTWARE USED:
The following machines, tools, equipment and/or software are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. Actual machines, tools, equipment and/or software used will vary.

• Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, dust mask, ear plugs, gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, work boots and safety vest.
• Two-way radio

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following physical activities or abilities are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual requirements of this position will vary.

• Ability to lift, carry and push/pull.
• Ability to walk or stand on hard surface for extended periods of time.
• Ability to climb onto and off of truck to inspect waste.

ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS:
The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.

• Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
• May be exposed to residential and commercial waste.
• Work environment involves working around machines, tools, equipment and trucks.
