Senior Project Manager, PMO at Portland

Our client is looking for a Senior level PM in Portland, Oregon (OR) who will manage the project management staff including Project Managers. Responsible for the development and oversight of the IT PMO including: developing the project management methodologies/processes, governance procedures, metrics, and for insuring adherence to these methodologies and processes. Also responsible for the development and oversight of the portfolio management, project reviews, SDO, and forecasting processes. Overall responsibility for the oversight and delivery of IT start-up projects for clients.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the management and oversight of our IT Project Management Organization (PMO)

  • Oversee Project Managers (PM) task assignments, project plans, project tracking, status reporting, budgeting, and issue (road block) resolution

  • Oversee department infrastructure including tool selection, department policies, initiatives, strategy, workforce resource allocation & planning, and financial planning

  • Manage PMs who actively participate in determining customer requirements, developing solutions, assessing project viability, estimating new work effort, and technical sales presentations as needed Evaluates vendors and negotiates vendor contracts

  • Meet frequently with PMs, senior IT leadership and operation managers to review strategy, tactics, and results Meet with clients, client vendors, and other professional contacts

  • Participate in tactical project work for customer projects as needed

  • Manage department budget, authorize expenditures, and control and monitor allocation and resources

  • Build and maintain relationships with business managers and IT team members. Includes travel to customer operational locations

  • Participate in the development of IT strategies and initiatives at various levels that support clients objectives in collaboration with the business and IT teams Participate in special projects, continuous improvement efforts a



The successful Project Manager will meet the following requirements (items are required unless noted otherwise):

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience

  • Knowledge of the key components of project management (e.g., scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk, integration) and associated tools and methodologies

  • General knowledge and ability to apply business practices in the context of project management activities

  • Able to identify issues, impacts and implications of events to a project and recommend alternatives to resolve issues

  • Able to apply sound judgment in highly ambiguous situations in unstructured environments

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in Business Intelligence, ETL processing, reporting, and analytics highly desirable

  • Demonstrated strong customer focus and client relationship building skills

  • Ability to carry out administrative management responsibilities such as weekly status meetings, weekly status reports and financial updates

  • Ability to effectively interact with technical infrastructure staff, employees, business users and consultants

  • Experience identifying, writing, and prioritizing business requirements

  • Experience facilitating large user workshops

  • Experience managing complex projects

  • Experience managing projects with multi-month time lines

  • Experience executing strategic business plans preferred

  • Experience managing organization change and communication preferred

  • Supervisory experience preferred
