About the Position:
This position is located at a hydro-electric generating facility that includes hydropower, navigation, fish passage and recreational activities. The project spans the Columbia River near the town of Umatilla in northeastern Oregon, approximately 10 miles north of Hermiston, Oregon and 30 miles south of Kennewick, Washington. The area is mostly desert with irrigation for agriculture and crop production. The project lies in close proximity to Hermiston, Oregon and the Tri-Cities of Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, WA, which are full service communities. There is a daily van pool from the Tri-Cities. Employees working at McNary Dam and living in the State of Washington are exempt from Oregon state tax.

- KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is NOT authorized.

- Paints such project facilities and equipment as switchboards, oil storage tanks (inside and outside), piping, generation equipment, air compressors, transformers, breakers, steel powerhouse superstructure, cranes, derricks, handrailing, grating, mitre gates, spillway gates, intake gates, bulkheads, stop logs, trash racks, machine shop equipment, powerhouse interior, offices, service building, furniture, signs and other items
- Prepares the surface to be covered. Such preparation may consist of wiping, washing, sandpapering, wire brushing, scraping, flame cleaning or sandblasting.
- Applies pre-mixed paints, varnishes, lacquers, primers, enamels, synthetic enamels, coal tar enamels, bitumastic and other protective coatings.
- Erects own scaffolding and staging to work from.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to topScreen Out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. I have experience performing the common tasks of a journeyman painter without more than normal supervision. I have experience preparing and painting all types of surfaces in a heavy industrial plant using spray guns, brushes, and rollers and to include the preparation of metal surfaces.Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical effort: Work performed requires physical endurance to work on ladders or in cramped, poorly accessible sites for prolonged periods of time. Lifts and carries equipment and supplies frequently up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Good vision is required. Work requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and kneeling.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside for the powerhouse and other project structures. Is exposed to noise, extremes of heat and cold, confined spaces, height, inclement weather, dust, paint spatter, and harmful fumes from chemicals in paints and solvents. There is also exposure to hazards such as eye injuries while chipping off old paint and rust. Irritation of eyes, skin and respiratory tract may result from sandblasting, spray painting, sanding and dusting surfaces. Workers are subject to falls when working on ladders, structures and scaffolds. During application of spray paint or while sandblasting, or when working in areas where this equipment is being used by others, a respirator will be worn. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
