Buyer II at Portland

With an emphasis on customer service, the Buyer II will source and negotiate terms and conditions for purchase of materials, products, equipment, supplies and service to ensure that the needs of the end user are being met at the lowest total cost.  The Buyer will be responsible for resolving vendor-related problems with regard to specifications, timing, quality, quantity and delivery of vendor products and establish and maintain mutually beneficial supplier relationships based on sound professional practices 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Essential Functions

  • Ensure established cost savings goals are achieved
  • Research and evaluate product quality and total cost.
  • Execute processes to purchase, receive, inspect, and pay for material and services on a timely basis and conforming to sound financial control practices.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, both corporate departments and field staff, to achieve effective and efficient purchasing operations.
  • Responsible for setup and maintenance of eCatalog items within assigned categories based on existing style guide parameters
  • Collaborate cross functionally to ensure items sourced meet KU standards for quality and safety
  • Lead RFQ’s and RFP’s within assigned product categories
  • Resolve supplier performance and supply chain issues.
  • Ensure all procurement policies and processes are followed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
 Requirements

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years purchasing experience, preferably in a multi-unit corporate procurement environment.
  • High School diploma required, bachelor degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of and experience with eProcurement systems is preferable
  • Must be able to work well in environments that have changing priorities where short deadlines are often the norm.
  • Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills.  This position will require the ability to effectively liaison with other departments.
  • Experience with business enterprise software, preferably Oracle.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.  Attention to detail and the ability to effectively administer a number of concurrent projects is a necessity.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills are necessary.  Ability to analyze electronic data to produce supporting documentation for business decisions.
  • Self-motivated, ability to initiate and sustain multiple projects at once.
